A Slight Obsession...

Not sure if I've confessed this before, but I have a small not so small obsession with Sea Urchin Spines!
Sea Urchin Spines - 25 pcs.
{find them here}
Yes, I know that sounds quite odd, but I find them to be absolutely beautiful and perfectly organic...it was love at first sight...

Natural Spiny Sea Urchin Quills Spines Top Drilled 40-90mm 15 GIANT beads
{found here}
 I really need to order some, A.S.A.P...

Indonesian Natural Sea Urchin Spines, 28pcs
{found here}
I think they're great for jewelry design, various craft projects (like strung on a length of hemp twine to make a garland, glued around a picture frame or hot glued around a glass cylinder to make a great vase) or even just simply having a large collection displayed in a bowl on the coffee table.  An easy and quite inexpensive way to add a unique, coastal, bohemian touch to your wardrobe or home interior!...not to mention a great conversation starter!

Knob Crush...

While doing a little knob research for a project, I came across this beauty!
{Martha Stewart Beehive knob}
Yes, it was love at first sight and I just couldn't resist sharing!

Navy Doors...

Our current house in Hawaii has louvered doors on all of the closets...
{image}
After seeing this photo, I thought that if our new home in Australia has the same type of doors, I'd love to paint them navy blue and leave the walls white!

Also, how cool is the Moroccan lantern hanging on a rope with a pulley!  Love that idea too!

While searching around for the source of my inspiration photo I discovered...

The photo above is featured on the cover of the book Etcetera etc. by Sibella Court.  Sibella also owns the store/company The Society Inc.  She's an author and interior stylist based in Australia.

{buy it here}
totally going to order her book (great read for the long plane trip or our long hotel stay).

and you must check out her fab online shop...she even carries the Turkish towels I want and blogged about here!
{Hamman Towels}
Don't think that I've mentioned this yet, but lately I've, kind of, been obsessed with all things horn!...and low and behold, she carries horn spoons...
{Horn Spoons}
and I'm totally thinking I NEED these... (don't judge)
{Sea Urchin Quills}
MUST STOP NOW...don't want to get carried away and post EVERY item in her store...so, if you're dieing to see more (as I'm sure you are)...what are you waiting for...hurry, go check out her shop for yourself!!

Pestemals: Turkish Towels...

While my husband and I love big white fluffy towels in the bath, I was thinking that I may get some beautiful Pestemals (Turkish Towels) to display.

I found a great little site (Turkish Towel Store) that has a large variety to select from.  Here are some of my favorites....

I'd also love a couple of their robes too...

great gift idea too!

If any of you are wondering what exactly a pestemal (peshtamal) is:
A peshtamal (Turkish: peştamal) is a Turkish traditional towel used in the Turkish baths. It is also used to specify which region people are from and is a part of a deep cultural tradition. In some places, it's called pestamal or pestemal. There are many kinds of peshtamals, with different styles and colors in each local areas in Turkey.
The peshtamal absorbs water as fast as a towel, dries very quickly, takes up less space and easy to carry and is therefore used as an alternative to the towel in bathrooms, pools, spas, beaches, sport facilities and for baby care. The peshtamal fabric is made of 100% cotton produced in hand-woven looms in Turkey. -Wikipedia
Who knows we may end up loving them enough to say güle güle (Turkish for goodbye) to our big white fluffy towels!

LOVE...

Wanted to share some spaces that I'm in love with...

I love everything about this space...especially the amazing wallcovering!
{image}
 I love it when furnishings serve only to enhance beautiful architecture, instead of in place of, or as an attempt to disguise the lack of interest or detail in the bones of the space.  Starting with "good bones" sure makes decorating easier and the results are much more interesting!
{image}
What I wouldn't give to call this next space all mine!  This is my favorite screened in porch of all time!  Yes, it was love at first sight and has made me want to start collecting kilim rugs!
{image}
Do you have any rooms that you're in love with?  Is it a room in your own home or one that you've seen in magazines or online (like mine)?  Don't be shy, share...it's always nice to share!  I'd love to see your spaces and hear your thoughts!

Aboriginal Art...

We always like to purchase at least one nice piece, from each place we've lived or visited (our Chinese antique "buffet" from Korea, our hand carved Honduran trunk, our antique teak Javanese chieftains cabinet from Hawaii, antique carved masks and a large beautiful rug from Kuwait...etc.), so carrying on this tradition we'll probably buy a piece of Aboriginal art (among other things, I'm sure) to remember our adventures in Australia.  Perhaps a piece like this...
{Aboriginal Art by Lily Napangardi}
I simply adore this piece, by artist Lily Napangardi and I'm sure we'll find a painting that we'll love, that will perfectly reflect our life in Australia and will, beautifully, blend into our home!

A Peep Toe Wedge...

Loving these peep toe, oxford style, wedges from Kohl's...

I may just have to order the plaid ones!  Too cute!

Ann & Andy...

My mother has always made a Raggedy Ann and Andy, either a pair (if it's for a girl) or only an Andy (for a boy), as a gift for anyone, friend or family, that's had a baby.  It's kind of what she's known for, well in the gift giving area, that is.  With that being said, somehow, my sister and I only had Raggedy Ann as children and she never made clothes for them.  Recently, the guilt of this must have caught up with her because she made me a (fully clothed) pair!
She tried to make them as a surprise, but she couldn't resist sending me this photo of them, right after she finished.  They haven't been shipped to me yet, but notice that she used a Hawaiian print fabric, she picked up while visiting us last year, for the shirts and Andy's hat.  Oh, and if you're wondering, they have green eyes, because I have green eyes.  And,Yes, she did make an Andy for my son, while I was still pregnant, she was ahead of the game on that one!  Thanks Mom!
