Lately, my husband and I have been talking about our future Hawaii condo quite often...things like location, minimum square feet, views, outdoor living space, school districts, parking spaces, age of the building, price point (you know all the important, practical stuff) and then, as always, I steer the conversation into designing the interior space. We agree that, ideally, we'd like an older building 1950-1970's era with a great view (mountains or water or both!), a large lanai is more important than a large living area, since the weather is beautiful, year round. But most importantly, we do not want the space to have been previously renovated. Of course, this helps in keeping the price lower and we're not paying more money for someone else's reno and taste that we'd rip out and replace anyway.
Having said all that, the real
reason inspiration behind this post was an image of a kitchen I spotted on Pinterest (of course!). It's a great kitchen from
Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles. A few of the high points for me are the sea urchin looking pendants (love), the big bowl with the palm on the counter, the collection of Asian hats and the color of the cabinets.
While my husband and I were at Ikea this past weekend (we mainly go because our son loves the play room and we get to drop him off for an hour!) I showed my husband the cabinets I've been thinking about for our future kitchen. The color is
Sofielund Light Grey. I told him that I'm leaning towards this color, because it remind me of driftwood, which pretty much sold him on the idea.
You're probably thinking that this seems like a lot of effort and time to put into a hypothetical condo, but I believe that the more you talk about something and visualize it and just put it out into the universe, the more likely it is to happen. Also, I'm kind of obsessive and like to plan for things way in advance and make lists. In reality, it's most likely going to happen within a year and a half to two years. We're talking about buying it about six months to a year before moving into it. If it's a year we'd rent it out and if it's six months or less, we'll start renovating it from here or at least start buying for it. Anyways, what a great kitchen to kick start some inspiration!
